Harbour commission approves the North Wharf plan
A 7–2 vote ends a year of hearings and reserves 40 acres for a shoreline path, a small-boat basin, and a market hall.
The harbour commission voted 7–2 on Thursday to adopt the North Wharf plan, setting aside 40 acres for a public walk, a small-boat basin, and a market hall. The decision closes eleven months of hearings that filled the council chamber on weeknights.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March. Vendors who use the seasonal lot will be offered stalls inside the new hall, and the city pledged to keep the shoreline path open while the work is underway.

Evening literacy program adds two centres
Enrolment doubled this term. The school board opened rooms at East Yard and Lane Street, with classes held after the day shift ends.

Machine shops along the river added 180 jobs between June and August, led by repair contracts for the ferry fleet.
